Multi-Omics Survey of the Deep-Sea Microbial Ecosystem in Muroto

Multi-Omics Survey of the Deep-Sea Microbial Ecosystem in Muroto aimed to investigate the ecology and evolution of giant viruses and their potential hosts in the deep ocean. Seawater samples were collected seasonally between December 2021 and April 2024 from both surface (0.5 m) and mesopelagic (320 m) layers at a coastal station in Muroto, Kochi, Japan. Specifically, 28 samples were used for 18S rDNA metabarcoding, 28 for 18S rRNA metabarcoding,13 for metagenomics, and 25 for metatranscriptomics. Here, we provide the raw sequencing data (metagenomes, metatranscriptomes, and 18S amplicons). The sequencing data were processed to generate high-quality reads, assemblies, and gene annotations. Based on this dataset, we examined the presence and transcriptional activity of giant viruses and microeukaryotes in the mesopelagic zone. Additional findings will be presented in upcoming publications.
