Mitochondrial 16S consensus Sanger sequences from duiker fecal DNA, Taï National Park #2

This dataset contains consensus Sanger sequences generated from fecal samples collected in Taï National Park, Côte d’Ivoire. Samples were originally collected for non-invasive genetic and dietary analyses of duikers (Cephalophinae), but the exact individual animal origin of each fecal sample is unknown. DNA was amplified using two mitochondrial 16S primer systems: mam2 (16Smam1 + 16Smam2 with blocking primers 16S mam blk hum 3 and 16S mam blk sus 1) and mam4 (16Smam1 + 16Smam4 with the same blocking primers). Both systems were tested on all samples. The majority of sequences were successfully amplified with the mam2 system, while a smaller subset yielded results only with mam4. The primer system used for each sequence is indicated in the consensus sequence file names and in the accompanying metadata table. Consensus sequences were generated in Geneious Prime by aligning forward and reverse chromatograms, trimming low-quality base calls at the 5′ and 3′ ends, and removing primer sequences. Only high-quality reads were retained in the final consensus sequences, with ambiguous or low-confidence regions excluded.
