Nitric Oxide-Releasing Nanoparticles for Combating Multidrug-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacteria

Antibiotic resistance is a growing global health threat, especially among Gram-negative bacteria that are difficult to treat. This thesis explores a new strategy using nitric oxide–releasing nanoparticles to combat multidrug-resistant bacteria. Nitric oxide is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that can kill bacteria, but delivering it safely and effectively is challenging. By designing specialised nanoparticles, this research improves nitric oxide delivery and enhances antibacterial activity. The findings provide insight into how these nanomaterials interact with bacterial membranes and offer a promising approach for developing alternative treatments against drug-resistant infections.
