The Winchester Museums series covers projects that mainly took place in the city's suburban areas between 1971 and 1986. The series and most of the excavations were funded by Historic England (and its predecessor bodies the Department of the Environment and English Heritage) with considerable involvement of Winchester City Council Museums Service staff. It also includes some sites on and within the city defences with some references to sites excavated at a later date and funded by other bodies where the findings provide additional relevant information.
In addition to the six volumes available here, a further three are in production featuring Winchester's city defences, Hyde Abbey and Roman ceramics.
