Soil is a complex and dynamic microhabitat in which microorganisms are involved in many ecological process. Highly diverse groups of fungi are represented in soil and play important physiological and ecological roles in this ecosystem. Amplicons derived from the 5'region of 18S rDNA were generated by PCR and sequenced using the Genome Sequencer 20 system. The majority of true fungal sequences recovered in this study belonged to the Ascomycota and Basidiomycota.
