Tolerance of young people regarding others. Interest in foreign
countries. Sources of information about EU civil rights. Topics:
nationality (multiple responses possible); personal significance of the
EU; expected changes through the EU within the next 10 years; most
important reasons for young adults to remain longer in their families;
attitude to older people; most important reasons for the decision about
the right point in time to have children; leisure activities;
membership in selected organizations; self-assessment of religiousness;
tolerance regarding members of other nationalities, races, religions,
cultures, regarding the handicapped, homosexuals, those clothed
differently, poorer persons, drug addicts, alcoholics and the homeless;
attitude to foreigners; knowledge of foreign languages and interest in
learning further languages; stays abroad within the last two years and
reasons for these stays abroad; assumed primary difficulties with
studies abroad or work abroad; assumed conduct with personal
unemployment; most useful abilities in the job search; primary sources
of income and amount of income; frequency of use of modern media such
as computers, Internet, CD-ROM and e-mail; knowledge about rights and
opportunities as EU citizen; preferred areas in which the EU should
become active within the next five years, and areas in which the EU
should not undertake anything; most helpful sources of information
about the rights and duties as citizen in Europe; social and political
attitudes; sex-specific preference for occupations such as lawyer,
doctor, parliamentarian, bus driver, psychologist, police officer,
pilot, superior, teacher, minister and babysitter. Demography: age at
termination of school education; sex; age; number of children and
adults in household; current employment; primary earner in household
and his occupation; head of household; religious affiliation. Also
encoded was: date of interview; time of start of interview; length of
interview; number of persons present during interview; willingness of
respondent to cooperate; city size; possession of a telephone;
interview language.
