Vibrant v. 1.2.0 (default parameters; Kieft, Zhou, and Anantharaman 2020) was used to provide gene annotations for vOTUs that are <10kb or not detected by VirSoter. Although annotation is available for these vOTUs, we chose not to include the data in our results and discussion because of the uncertainty surrounding their validity.
