Whole genome sequences of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) isolates from humans and nonhuman primates

Whole genome phylogenetic analysis of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) isolates from humans and nonhuman primates revealed an ancient origin of the Aa species likely through a co-evolutionary event with the old world monkeys (Catarrhini). In addition, we identified a unique association of the ato operon (atoRDAEB) operon, which is predicted to be involved in short chain fatty acid (SCFA) catabolism, with human disease-associated isolates.
