Genomic characterization of an atypical Salmonella strain isolated in Northwest Spain.

An unusual Salmonella strain isolated in Spain from cooked mussels that could not be identified by standard laboratory methods because it failed to produce characteristic hydrogen sulfide gas and had an untypable serotype. This is the genomic sequences of the Salmonella Senftenberg strain with chromosomal rearrangements that disrupted normal surface antigen production, explaining why traditional identification methods failed.
