The invention relates to a rotating drum (1) for treating fibrous material (2)， the rotational axis (3) of which drum (1) is inclined by at most 30° with respect to the horizontal， into which drum (1) fibrous material (2) which is mixed with water is fed on a first end side (4)， which fibrous material (2) is transported within the drum (1) from the first (4) to the second end side (5) by means of transport elements (6)， wherein the drum (1) is perforated， and a fine fraction flows through the perforation and a coarse fraction is repelled by said perforation. The treatment of the fibrous material is intensified by virtue of the fact that the first end side (4) of the drum (1) is closed and at least one retaining nozzle (9) directs a water jet onto the fibrous material (2) counter to the transport direction (10) of the fibrous material (2).
