This JSON-formatted dictionary of fishing areas as organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) is based on data published on the websites of the European Commission (English, German). If no German name could be determined, the English name is given instead.
The concept and rationale of the FAO Major Fishing Areas is described on the FAO website.
This dictionary implements three hierarchical levels: Areas, Subareas and Divisions.
