VPRS 18017 Psychiatric Service Case Files

This series consists of case files created by the Psychiatric Service at Winlaton Youth Training Centre (VA 5093).The Winlaton Psychiatric Service assessed clients with behavioural problems, depression, family problems, or suspected intellectual disability issues to determine their appropriate treatment and facilities. Some of the clients were pregnant and had been during transferred to Winlaton from other institutions like unmarried mother's homes.Referrals to the Psychiatric Service clinic were either voluntary or involuntary. A file was created for each client who had an initial assessment or ongoing treatment by the psychiatrist. The files documented clinical and medical profiles of clients, including in some instances IQ assessments, and medications or counselling services provided.The records in this series predate the Trainee Information Files (VPRS 17998) and are the only extant client based records from the late 1960s throughout the 1970s.Each case file includes the following documents:- Brief Psychiatric Screening Interview Only Sheet- Clinical notes from psychiatrist / psychologist progress notes- Specialist's reports- Copies of the Probation Service of Victoria file with the Children's Clinic Psychiatric report- Examples of client's drawings- Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) Record Forms with IQ assessments and examples of WISC tests- Rorschach inkblot method inquiry charts.
