Global distance-to-coastline and land-fraction grids derived from GSHHG (0.01°–0.1°)

This dataset provides precomputed global raster grids of (1) distance to thenearest coastline and (2) land fraction within given search radii, derivedfrom the GSHHG (Global Self-consistent, Hierarchical, High-resolutionGeography) coastline database (Wessel & Smith, 1996,https://doi.org/10.1029/96JB00104). Grids are provided at three resolutions (0.1°, 0.05°, 0.01°). Fordistance_to_land, three minimum-island-area exclusion thresholds (0, 1400,4748 km²) are available, used to filter small islands out of the coastlinedefinition before computing distance. land_fraction grids use the 0 km²threshold only, and additionally store the fraction of land area withinradii of 100–600 km (100 km steps) around each grid point. distance_to_land is the great-circle distance (km, negative over land) fromeach grid cell center to the nearest coastline vertex, computed via exactnearest-neighbor search over GSHHG coastline levels 1 (mainland/islands) and5 (Antarctic ice-shelf front) at scale "f" (full resolution). land_fractionis a grid-cell-counting estimate of the proportion of land within eachsearch radius (not an exact polygon/disc intersection).
