This repository contains the three Leading Edge Roughness (LER) topographies used in wind tunnel tests and CFD simulations within the LERCat project funded by the Danish Energy Agency (EUDP-64021-2027). The LERCat project was a collaborative effort involving DTU Wind, Vestas Wind Systems A/S, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy A/S, LM Wind Power A/S, Suzlon Energy Nederlands Branch, PowerCurve ApS.The LER1 topography is a relative mild roughness which is extracted from a scan of a cast taken of a wind turbine blade leading edge. LER2 is a relative severe roughness which is extracted from a scan direct of a blade. Both topographies are unfolded so the topographies can be applied on other aerofoils by wrapping them around the leading edge.The LER1 filled is simply a modified version of the LER1 where the left part of the roughness topography has been filled.The dataset consists of asc-files with the 3D coordinates of the unfolded LER topographies. The coordinates are given as (s,t,n)-curvilinear coordinates with “s” along the circumferential of the blade (s=0 at the leading edge), “t” in the spanwise direction and “n” is the outward pointing normal to the surface, i.e. giving a negative value for the roughness depth, see also the supplementing paper “An aerodynamic digital twin of real-world leading edge erosion: Acquisition, Generation and 3D CFD”.The png-files show a 2D roughness map, the spanwise roughness depth along the centreline of the roughness map and the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the roughness depth along the centreline.The DTU Data item LERCat Data: CFD Simulations holds 2D and 3D surface meshes for CFD simulations and can be consulted for cleaner versions of the LER topographies.
