V_forest_birch_dendro_regional_finnmark

This data set describes a tree ring data set of 277 stems of downy birch (*Betula pubescens*) collected in a replicated ecological study design across Norway’s northernmost county Finnmark. The motivation of the study was to quantify the state (health and regeneration) of the subarctic birch forest in the region following intense outbreaks by defoliators (geometrid moth) in the first two decades of this century. The dataset consists of the following files:

- A coordinate file that contains sampling coordinates for each sampling transect. This file is in a simple text format (.txt).
- A data file that contains the raw measurements of ring width per year for each sample. The data file is given in the Tree Ring Data Standard (TriDaS; [Jansma et al. 2010](https://doi.org/10.1016/j.dendro.2009.06.009)), which is an XML-based universal standard for dendrochronological data.
