Ovarian carcinoma, especially high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC), is the deadliest gynecologic malignancy in the USA. Despite initial treatment with surgery and platinum-based chemotherapy, around 80% of HGSOC patients experience relapse. This is particularly challenging in platinum-resistant recurrent HGSOC, especially in cases where BRCA1/BRCA2 genes are wild-type (BRCAwt), which comprise approximately 75% of all HGSOC cases, highlighting an urgent need for novel therapeutic agents. In cohort 5 of the clinical trial of CHK1 (CHEK1) inhibitor Prexasertib (Clinicaltrials.gov ID: NCT02203513), 24 HGSOC patients underwent percutaneous needle biopsies guided by CT or ultrasound at baseline.
