RNA-sequencing was performed on ray florets of different color sunflower cultivars (Yr17, Yr35 and Pc103) to elucidate their transcriptome profiles. Through transcriptome annotation, differentially expressed genes analysis and qRT-PCR validation, several genes participate in flavonoid pathway were identified to be candidate genes responsible for different color formation in three cultivars.
