Characterization and reconstruction of Drosophila's symbiotic bacterial strains using metagenomic data

Drosophila is rapidly emerging as a valuable model for studying the ecology and evolution of animal-associated microbes as well as the interaction between host-microbiota. However, little is known about the structure and diversity of microbial communities associated with different Drosophila species, especially those inhabiting Neotropical regions in the Andean Forest. Here, we used sequencing data derived from 24 different Drosophila species to reconstruct complete or nearly complete, high-quality bacterial genomes (MAGs) and evaluate their diversity and phylogenetic relationships. Likewise, a characterization and diversity analysis of the microbiota of these Drosophila was also done.
