This repository contains some of the intermediate data products needed to reproduce the results in the Journal of Physical Oceanography article "Long-distance radiation of Rossby waves from the equatorial current system" by J.T. Farrar, T.S. Durland, S.R. Jayne, and J.F. Price.  Specifically, this material should allow reproduction of Figures 2 and 4-9 and all figures in the appendices.  This code and data files were used with Matlab Version 9.6.0.1072779 (R2019a). Code to do the analysis and make the plots is here:  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4549917 and (possibly with updates) https://github.com/jtomfarrar/barotropic_wave_JPO_paper_2021 Matlab data files: (1) SSH_grid_global_0.5deg_6deg_3day_Sx_gauss_fixed_inpaint.mat  Gridded sea surface height product described in Appendix A of Farrar et al. (2021).  Gridding was done using a Gaussian smoother with half-power wavelengths of 6-deg×6-deg×17-days.  The input data used for the mapped product are sea surface height anomalies from the multi-mission, geophysically corrected, cross-calibrated, unfiltered along-track altimetry data produced and distributed by the Copernicus Marine and Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) (http://www.marine.copernicus.eu).   (2) aviso_pacific_nanland_out_truncated_2014product.mat This file is a truncated version of the standard multi-satellite DUACS gridded SSH anomaly product (known as DUACS 2014).  The data were downloaded from Aviso in 2016; they are now available from CMEMS (http://www.marine.copernicus.eu). (3) coast_tom.mat (coastline file that is a duplication of Matlab's included "coast.mat" file, but with variables renamed) (4) twilight_colormap2.mat (taken from the python matplotlib twilight color map) (5) ETOPO2v2c.mat (bathymetry data from https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/global/etopo2.html, saved in Matlab format) (6) ETOPO2v2c_1_deg_avg_whole_deg.mat (same as (5), but averaged to 1-deg-- only needed for land mask) (7) H_L06_23_Ted_ray_tracing_bathy_final.mat (smoothed bathymetry for ray tracing, needed for Fig 2) (8) ModelAmpPhase_IandR.mat Amplitude and phase of equlilbrated (statistically steady state) barotropic model run (see text and appendix of paper).
