Genome sequencing of Xanthomonas arboricola pv. pruni

Xanthomonas arboricola pv. pruni is a bacterial pathogen that causes bacterial spot disease in various stone fruit trees, particularly in Prunus species such as peaches, plums, and cherries. This pathogen infects the leaves, fruit, and sometimes the twigs of susceptible trees, leading to the development of dark lesions with a characteristic halo. Bacterial spot can cause significant damage to fruit trees, leading to reduced yields and quality. Management strategies often include cultural practices, such as sanitation and pruning, as well as the use of copper-based fungicides.Here, we sequence the pathotype strain of this pathovar. Unlike most isolates of this pathovar, the type strain was not pathogenic on Prunus laurocerasus and is phylogenetically distinct from the majoriy of genome-sequenced isolates.
