Lab 3, Week, 4 - Techniques and Data

Data was collected on the insects caught inside pan traps set up either in a grassland (G) or woodlot (W) at York University's Keele Campus. There were approximately 10 traps with approximately the same number of different coloured pans in each location. The pans were set up using a random arrangement of colours with at least one meter seperating each pan in both locations. The pans were coloured either blue (B), yellow (Y), or white (W) to attract the insects to the trap of soapy water inside each pan. The total number of insects caught in the soapy water, the different recognizable taxonomic units (rtus) caught in each specific pan trap, and the quantity of each individual rtu found inside each specific pan trap were recorded after letting the traps sit for approximetly 3 hours. .
