The mouse stool microbioata in dystonia musculorum mice

Hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type VI (HSAN-VI) patients report chronic diarrhea and abdominal pain; similarly, the dystonia musculorum (Dstdt) mouse model for HSAN-VI presents with gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms such as massive gas accumulation and intestinal discolouration. No changes to enteric nervous system integrity, or GI function were observed in Dstdt-27J mice. However, differences in the microbiome do occur between wild type and Dstdt-27J mice, which could help explain the GI symptoms.
