资源简介:
Research background: This major thematic exhibition at MUMA explored the concept of art as action both within gallery contexts and beyond. The exhibition examines what constitutes the work of an artist; how the varying roles of the artist fit within broader society; and artforms that function beyond conventions of art as object. It featured artworks from a range of Australian and international practitioners, including Fluxus films and conceptual videos from the 1970s, as well as contemporary examples. Dr Kosloff's video work 'Standard run' was included in this exhibition. Research contribution: Dr Kosloff's video work 'Standard run' uses the artist's body to humourously explore the mimetic basis of art and the artist as subject and object within an artwork. Her video refers to a range of cultural references, including early representations of movement in photography, sport, slapstick comedy, instructional films, 1970s video art, synchronized dance, classical poses and the culture of the 'trained' body. By combining and referencing these elements, Kosloff explores culture in relation to nature, the body as a machine and the 'objective truth' of cameras; transforming time, space and its perception into a series of still images. Research significance: The significance of this research is that Dr Kosloff's performative video 'Standard run' was curated into a major thematic exhibition that explores 'artwork as action'. A major publication (134 pages) was produced for the exhibition. Major newspapers and art magazines including the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age newspaper and Art & Australia magazine reviewed this exhibition. The exhibition will travel to Artspace gallery in Sydney and Flinders University Art Museum in Adelaide in 2015.
