A dataset of microscope images of Middle Devonian rock sections from Guanwushan Formation in the Western Sichuan Basin

Following significant progress in oil and gas exploration within the Devonian Guanwushan Formation in the western Sichuan Basin (Chuanxi), research on its sedimentary reservoirs has garnered substantial attention. However, due to insufficiently thorough basic geological studies of the Middle Devonian Guanwushan Formation in western Sichuan, the current understanding of its sedimentary framework remains unclear, hindering advancements in hydrocarbon exploration. To enrich foundational geological data for this region, this study selected seven Middle Devonian Guanwushan Formation field profiles in the western Sichuan Basin and systematically collected 153 rock samples for thin-section preparation. Detailed analyses were conducted on rock types, mineral compositions and abundances, textures and structures, fossil assemblages, and diagenetic processes across different profiles. Additionally, 550 polarized micrographs were systematically documented. This research provides essential geological references for further studies on sedimentary reservoirs and hydrocarbon exploration in the Middle Devonian Guanwushan Formation of the western Sichuan Basin.
