Method: Filtration of 1 L (surface) to 4 L (deep water) onto GF/F filters pre-combusted at 500°C for 4 h. Filters were soaked in 0.1 N HCl for removal of inorganic carbon and dried at 60°C. POC measurements were then conducted on a Carlo Erba CHN elemental analyzer.
