Selective induction of mesangial lineage cells

Interstitial progenitor cells (IPCs) are essential for the creation of spatial heterogeneity in organs. In this study, we first modified the posterior mesodermal progenitor cell induction step of our previously reported NPC differentiation protocol from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and developed a method to selectively induce renal IPCs. Based on an analysis of E9.5 and E10.5 mice, we further established a highly efficient induction method for IPCs. Further, we could develop a method to induce RENIN(+) mesangial lineage cells from the hiPSC-derived IPCs. Our IPC and mesangial lineage cell differentiation system will contribute to kidney regeneration and developmental research.
