Dataset for: Utilization of Participatory Mapping Tools for the Assessment of Neglected and Underutilized Crop Species (NUS crops) Diversity in Ucayali, Peru

Dataset resulting from the application of participatory GIS mapping at the plot level among indigenous and mestizo households in Ucayali landscape, Peru, using ArcGIS Survey 123. The dataset contains field content, land use history and polygon data for 273 plots belonging to 221 households. Each plot was visited and participatory mapping tools were used to register the field, identifying the species and landraces of Amazonian roots and tubers classified as Neglected and Underutilized Crop Species (NUS). Here we report a dataset comprising eight different species: cassava (Manihot esculenta), sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas), aerial potato (Dioscorea bulbifera L.), achipa or chuin (Pachyrhizus tuberosus), pituca (Colocasia spp., Xanthosoma spp.), dale-dale (Calathea allouia), and sacha papa (Dioscorea bulbifera). Overall, the study captured the main characteristics of 683 landraces recorded across 273 mapped plots from 221 farmer households. The dataset is organized into 5 sections (i) household information, (ii) field information and land-use history, (iii) species names, (iv) landrace names, and (v) GIS coordinates of plots.
