Maine Department of Marine Resources Atlantic Halibut Tagging

This is the OBIS extraction of the Ocean Tracking Network and Maine Department of Marine Resources (Maine-DMR) Maine Department of Marine Resources Atlantic Halibut Tagging, consisting of the release tagging metadata, i.e. the location and date when the tagged animal was released, and summarized detection events of tagged individuals.
If readers are interested in the source dataset they may also inquire with the project PIs as listed here or on the OTN web site (https://members.oceantrack.org/project?ccode=MEHAL).Abstract:The Maine Department of Marine Resources has tagged Atlantic Halibut using conventional wire tags and archival tags (DST/PSATs) since 2000. Beginning in 2021, the department will release up to 100 Atlantic halibut per year double tagged with acoustic and data storage (DST) tags. Additionally, the department will place several acoustic release receivers on moorings in the area of release. It is hoped that these tags will be detected by existing receiver deployments along the inshore Gulf of Maine, as well as receivers throughout the Canadian maritimes. Past wire tag returns have indicated that approximately 15% of halibut tagged traveled past the OTN Halifax receiver line.
