The Washington University Genome Sequencing Center (WashU-GSC) began a sequencing pilot project of Caenorhabditis briggsae to determine whether the sequence would aid in the annotation of C. elegans genomic sequence. This project then progressed and a high-quality draft sequence was completed and published. The Wash.U-GSC reported their analysis in Stein et al., PLoS Biology 1(2):E45:, 2003.
