Black‑headed Gull behavioural responses to New Year fireworks: flight, disturbance, and roost counts (2020/21–2022/23)

This deposit contains data on flight and disturbance behaviour in 15-minute intervals of nocturnal flight activity (% flight time), disturbance behaviour scores (0–6) and numbers of close and distant fireworks for each night across three winters. Every year, there is a control night from December 27th to 28th and New Year's Eve night from December 31st to January 1st, as well as additional data from the following nights. There is also a dataset on the number of roosting birds for winters 2020/21 and 2021/22. Besides the data, extensive R analysis scripts are provided that enable the import and cleaning of the data to model the effects of fireworks with Generalised Additive Mixed Models (GAMMs) and allow the calculations of flight proportions, disturbance scores and roosting numbers.
