Cryopreservation and transfer of soil microbiomes

In this study, we cryopreserved soil microbiomes for ~1 year and then introduced to two distinct sterile recipient soil types. We aimed to determine 1) which approach to cryopreservation retained the greatest richness of active microorganisms, and 2) whether the similarity between microbiomes in recipient soils paralleled the similarity between microbiomes in the parent soils.
