To identify key signals in hypoxic non-cancer and cancer cells treated with 10 micro g/ml of lactoferrin and/or radiation, a detailed experiment was performed using two cell types: non-cancer lip fibroblasts (KD) and oral squamous cell carcinoma cells (SCC; HSC2). Both cell types were first cultured under normoxic conditions for 24 hours. They were then exposed to a dose of 5 Gy of gamma-rays. Immediately after irradiation, the cells were treated with lactoferrin and then incubated for another 24 hours under either normoxic or hypoxic conditions. Finally, the cells were harvested, and total RNA was prepared for RNA sequencing analysis to evaluate changes in gene expression.
