This longitudinal dataset captures details of state statutes and regulations for the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico from August 31, 2023, through December 31, 2024, that govern criminalization related to HIV, STIs, and/or infectious disease. The dataset includes laws related to potential communicable disease exposure, transmission, disclosure, and available defenses and possible sentences for criminal violations.
This dataset was created with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award in the amount of $1,038,262.00 to Temple University. The contents do not necessarily represent the official views of, nor an endorsement, by CDC/HHS, or the U.S. government.
