Data for Predation risk shapes among- and within-individual variation in behavior in poison frog tadpoles Overview This repository contains data and analysis code accompanying the manuscript: "Predation risk shapes among- and within-individual variation in behavior in poison frog tadpoles" The dataset includes behavioral measurements from shelter use and novel environment assays conducted on Allobates femoralis tadpoles from natural pools with and without predators. Detailed methods are described in the associated paper. Files and Variables Data Files shelterassay_results.csv Behavioral data from assays measuring how long tadpoles took to emerge from a shelter. Column Description TadpoleID Unique numerical identifier for each individual Date Housed Date tadpole was placed in isolation tube (DD/MM/YYYY) Bucket Pool of origin Trial Trial number (1st–4th assay for this individual) DateTrial Date this trial was conducted (DD/MM/YYYY) Behav Assay type (shelter or novel environment) TimeUncovered Total time spent in uncovered side of petri dish (seconds; not analyzed) Crossing Number Number of crossings between covered and uncovered sides (not analyzed) TimeToEmerge PRIMARY RESPONSE VARIABLE — Time to first emergence from covered to uncovered side (seconds). Contains columns as listed above, plus: Column Description Vid Video filename analyzed CumlDist PRIMARY RESPONSE VARIABLE — Cumulative distance moved during trial (pixels) Analysis Files PredatorAllobatesFemoralisR.R R script for all statistical analyses, including: Bayesian double hierarchical generalized linear model (DHGLM) fitting Posterior distributions and HPDI intervals for pairwise differences Repeatability analysis fit.Rds Saved brms model object for the fitted Bayesian hierarchical model. Load directly into R to inspect model output without re-running computationally intensive fitting. Software Requirements All analyses were conducted in R v4.3.3 (r-project.org). RStudio is optional but recommended (posit.co). See README for R packages used.
