This study describes the identification of a new mesophilic A. salmonicida strain isolated from farmed juvenile Atlantic salmon in the cool waters of Southern Tasmania. A multiplex conventional PCR is developed for the rapid and inexpensive identification of all strains of A. salmonicida and exclusion of the exotic strain, A. salmonicida ssp. salmonicida.
