<p>This
dataset contains raw time-series measurements of Rn-222 activity concentration
recorded in a laboratory exhalation-chamber setup using an AlphaGUARD DF2000
radon monitor operated in flow-through mode. The data refer to Rn-222 release
from polymetallic nodules collected in the Clarion–Clipperton Zone (Pacific
Ocean) and include both intact nodule samples and milled/pulverized fractions
(dust/fine material). Measurements were logged at a 10-min interval in a
closed-loop system. For each run, the dataset provides time stamps (or elapsed
time) and the corresponding Rn-222 activity concentration values (Bq m-3),
along with instrument-exported auxiliary parameters when available (e.g.,
environmental readings).
The
dataset supports the article “Exhalation of Rn-222 from polymetallic nodules –
assessment of radiological risk during transportation and storage” and enables
calculation of the initial build-up slope (linear regression over a defined
early-time interval), determination of the surface exhalation coefficient E (Bq
m-2 s-1) and mass exhalation rate EM (Bq kg-1
s-1), and subsequent scenario-based screening estimates of indoor
Rn-222 concentrations in transport/storage environments (e.g., a ship
cargo-hold case) under assumed ventilation rates.
