Fonsecaea pedrosoi is a fungal species member of the family Herpotrichiellaceae, and is the major causative agent of chromoblastomycosis. This species is found mainly in tropical and sub-tropical regions as a saprophyte or living in association with plant matter. The disease is trigged by the inoculation of fungal material into the skin and farming activities in the endemic zone are a risk factor for the development of chromoblastomycosis. The genomic data will bring new opportunities to understand the biology of this fungal species. In addition, this study aims to investigate virulence factors of this important pathogen.
