资源简介:
Electrical resistivity models derived from magnetotelluric (MT) measurements across the Khanga Dome, an intracontinental plateau in central Mongolia, have identified several intriguing features, including a locally thinned lithosphere and extended fluid-rich domains in the lower crust. However, due to the limited spatial coverage of these studies, whether those features extend beyond central Mongolia could not be assessed. This is an important question with major scientific implications for understanding the geodynamic evolution of the region. The surrounding areas also host significant mineral deposits and geothermal resources, which depend on the characterisation of deep structures to be fully understood. 378 new MT measuring sites were installed in locations to the west, east, and north of the Khangai Dome, between 2020 and 2023. Two new 3-D electrical resistivity models of the region were derived using a combination of the new and previously acquired datasets. The first model, presented in the accompanying theses, was obtained using data from 226 MT stations distributed over a regular grid with 50 km spacing. The second model, presented in an associated paper to Geophysical Journal International, was obtained using data from 331 MT sites with grid spacing varying from 10-50 km. These new models cover an area of approximately $900\times 1250$ km$^2$, substantially expanding the spatial coverage compared to previous published models.
