Survey Data: Professional Development Needs of Early Childhood Educators Supporting War-Affected Children in Ukraine (Kharkiv Region)

This dataset contains anonymised survey responses collected from 102 in-service early childhood education and care (ECEC) educators working in Kharkiv city and the surrounding Kharkiv region, Ukraine. Data were collected in October 2025 (6–28 October 2025) during the period of martial law, using an online researcher-designed questionnaire. The dataset is provided as a Microsoft Excel file (.xlsx) with 102 rows (one per respondent) and 16 columns. Column 1 contains the response timestamp. Columns 2–15 correspond to survey items covering the following thematic domains: age group worked with; years of professional experience; challenges during wartime; perceived causes of difficulties; most difficult aspects of work; observed psycho-emotional states of war-affected children; pedagogical support strategies; essential professional competences; presence of internally displaced children (IDP) in the group; observed characteristics of IDP children; familiarity with trauma-informed approaches; perceived role of family; difficulties in working with parents; self-reported readiness to provide psychosocial support. Column 16 captures open-ended responses on desired professional support. Items 3–8, 10, 12, and 15–16 are open-ended and contain responses in Ukrainian. Items 1–2, 9, 11, 13, and 14 are closed-ended (categorical). Data collection was conducted anonymously. No personally identifiable information was collected. No demographic variables (gender, educational qualification, institutional type) were recorded, in order to minimise participant burden and protect respondent anonymity in a conflict-affected setting. Participation was voluntary and informed consent was obtained from all respondents prior to data collection.
