Gut Microbiota and Immune System Patterning in the Mouse Gastrointestinal Tract

The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) exhibits distinct anatomical and functional characteristics along its length, harboring a substantial immune cell reservoir and diverse microbiota, the interplay of which is fundamental in preserving homeostasis and health. Despite its importance for comprehending (patho)physiological conditions, the impact of segment-specific microbiota on the locoregional immune cell composition of the GIT remains insufficiently understood. This study investigates the extent to which anatomical location, on the one hand, and the presence of local microbiota, on the other, influence immune cell abundance in the intestine.
