Mesorhizobium sp. 10.2.2 and 10.2.3 were co-isolated with Rhizobium leguminosarum Norway, an ineffective Lotus micro-symbiont, from Lotus corniculatus nodule in Norway. The co-inhabitation of a Lotus root nodule by the Mesorhizobium sp. and Rhizobium leguminosarum strain can be explained by interspecific interactions between the rhizobia. Therefore, the study of the Mesorhizobium sp. 10.2.2 and 10.2.3 genomes can potentially elucidate the mechanism of interactions between the effective and ineffective rhizobial micro-symbionts.
