Global 30-m Annual Cropland Extent Dynamics (GACED30)

Data Description The Global 30-m Annual Cropland Extent Dynamics (GACED30) dataset (2000–2024) is generated based on the Global 30-m Seamless Data Cube (SDC30). Compared to existing global cropland products, GACED30 provides a consistent year-to-year long time series that exhibits better performance in capturing annual phenological continuity and resolving definitional inconsistencies—specifically regarding active fallow land and perennial woody crops. This dataset can be directly used to quantify the structural expansion, stability, and contraction of global agricultural systems. Data Access & Packaging On this Zenodo repository, the global 30-m data is organized into 60 compressed packages, each covering a 6° longitude span to facilitate manageable downloads of the global archive. For users requiring higher granularity, the dataset is also hosted on the iEarth remote sensing cloud computing platform (iEarth GACED30), which supports the retrieval and download of individual TIFF data points for specific regions of interest. Tiling System The GACED30 dataset is organized into a regular grid system based on the WGS84 geographic coordinate system (EPSG:4326). The global land surface is partitioned into non-overlapping tiles, each covering a 3° × 3° spatial extent. The data is provided at a spatial resolution of 30 meters (0.000269°). Data Format Following are the components of a typical cropland map (2000-2024) file name: Crop_Lon_Lat.tif (e.g., Crop_3.0_33.0.tif) Lon: Longitude of the tile's lower-left corner (e.g., 3.0 indicates the tile covers longitudes from 3.0° to 6.0°). Lat: Latitude of the tile's lower-left corner (e.g., 33.0 indicates the tile covers latitudes from 33.0° to 36.0°). The default file format is Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF (COG). Each GACED30 GeoTIFF file contains 25 bands, representing the annual cropland extent for each year from 2000 to 2024. The bands are temporally ordered as follows: Band 1: Year 2000 Band 2: Year 2001 … Band 25: Year 2024 The pixel values within each band indicate the land cover classification status: 0: Non-Cropland 1: Cropland (including active annual crops, perennial woody crops, active fallow and agricultural structures like greenhouses) 255: NoData (masked areas)
