Environmental sludge sequencing

In this study, two anaerobic membrane bioreactors were operated in parallel: a conventional one (R1) and one integrated electrochemical components (R2). Both bioreactor systems featured a submerged membrane unit within a cylindrical anaerobic digester. The sludge from both reactors was collected and cryopreserved at -80 degree Celsius following the experiment for each period. The bacterial and archaeal communities were examined using 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing.
