This is a special issue of the National Park Service's journal, CRM, articles in this issue provides information about federal agencies' archeological activities in parks and other federal lands, Indian tribes, states, local governments and the private sector. This special issue of CRM magazine focuses on the protection and management of archeological sites, collections, and data. The National Strategy for Federal Archeology encompasses public education and participation, public use of the archeological and paleoenvironmental record, the fight against looting, preserving the archeological record in place, the interagency cooperation in informal exchange, site inventories, and the curation of collections and records.
Included in this volume is a rich variety of articles pertaining to archeology, how and which federal government agencies undertake or require archaeological projects, and how these agencies collaborate in protecting and managing cultural heritage. The organization of the Federal Archeology Program is explained in detail as well as a list of departments, agencies, laws and regulations related to the interests and concerns of archeological sites and resources.
