The space accounting reflects the desired use of space as laid down in legal zoning plans and does not necessarily correspond to the actual use of space. It is a generalised colouring of the zoning plans according to the Flemish main categories: housing, community, recreation, greenery, agriculture, business, and infrastructure (see also Flemish Codex for Spatial Planning Codex - http://www.ruimtelijkeordening.be/NL/Policy/Legislation/VlaamseCodexRO/2Planning/VCROT2H2Space implementation plans art. 2.2.3. §2). Since the regional plan was drawn up (1979), space accounting (data layer) has been drawn up for the following years: 1980, 1990, 2001, 2006 (start of the Antwerp Spatial Structure Plan). From 2010 onwards, this will take place annually, on 1 January of each calendar year, with the then approved and valid BPAs and Spatial Implementation Plans (both regional, provincial and municipal).
