About 80 percent of Italians own one car or more, while only 20 percent do not own a car. Cars represent a part of Italian culture and since the economic boom and the first Fiat 500, they are now an integral part of the Italian way of life. In fact, private vehicles are the most used everyday means of transport for Italians on their way to work. A flourishing market The car market is showing positive figures. According to data, private buyers are leading the positive trend, followed by rental firms and other businesses. Generally speaking, all three categories show a positive trend. What about the environment? Although Italians clearly appreciate freedom of movement, the environment should not be neglected. Incentives to purchase electric or less polluting cars was the most selected option on the topic of measures to reduce car pollution. Only ten percent of respondents believed that banning petrol and diesel cars would be a useful measure.
