Pyrenophora semeniperda is a seed necrotroph with potential as a biological control agent for cheatgrass. To increase the genetic resources of this fungus, we prepared a genome assembly of a P. semeniperda isolate using nucleotide sequence reads from 454 GS-FLX pyrosequencing (shotgun and 3-kb paired ends). This assembly will provide insight into P. semeniperda biology which had not been available previously and will accelerate projects focused on using this fungus as a biological control agent for cheatgrass.
