Site Data from an Excavation at Conference Way, Vale Park, Evesham, Worcestershire 2021

This archive comprises images, GIS, and tabular datasets from and excavation at Conference Way, Vale Park, Evesham, Worcestershire carried out by Worcestershire Archaeology between June and July 2021. The work was commissioned by Ecus Ltd. on behalf of Chase Commercial Limited, in advance of a proposed industrial development. Planning permission has been granted subject to a programme of archaeological works. The site is located at the southern edge of the town of Evesham, over approximately 3km from the town centre. It forms part of the immediate agricultural surrounds of Vale Business Park, located to the north. The site is a triangular field to the immediate south of a building known as the Robert Welch warehouse. The field is currently fallow. The excavation follows an archaeological evaluation undertaken by Worcester Archaeology in 2018. The evaluation comprised twenty-one trenches and identified prehistoric and medieval to post-medieval features. The prehistoric phase consisted of a cluster of pits filled with charcoal and burnt stone considered likely to relate to a burnt mound, and a separate group of possible pits and gullies. These features sat beneath an alluvial layer that was undated but believed to be potentially prehistoric. The medieval to post-medieval phase was characterised as a period of agricultural land use and consisted mainly of furrows and possible field boundaries. The excavation consisted of opening three areas targeting the features identified in the evaluation. The work confirmed the presence of features filled with burnt mound material towards the south western limit of the site. The remaining possible features were revealed to be either of post-medieval date, or to represent natural disturbances such as rooting and tree bowls.
