In 2013 a national assessment was carried out, which was commissioned by the Flemish government, to assess whether students have achieved the attainment targets for project-integrated general subjects at the end of the third grade of vocational secondary education. Data were collected through four tests: a test on functional reading comprehension, a test on functional listening comprehension, a test on functional arithmetic comprehension and a test on functional information acquisition and processing. A representative sample of 3381 students from 116 Flemish secondary schools participated. Tests were supplemented with background questionnaires for students, parents and teachers. The questionnaires collected information on the general background characteristics of the students and their families, the students' school careers and classroom practices. The response rates to these questionnaires were 99% for students and 74% for parents. Teachers were able to complete a part of the questionnaire online, for which the response rate was 94%. For the paper part, the response rate was 87%.
