Untargeted polar metabolomics of B. distachyon root exudates under varying iN supply. B. distachyon plants were grown for 3 weeks on 5 mM inorganic nitrogen (iN) as NO3-, NH4+, or NH4NO3 and then transferred to iN-free medium for additional two weeks (groups: -NO3, -NH4, -NH4NO3). The Control plants received iN medium for 5 weeks (groups: +NO3, +NH4, +NH4NO3). The molecular network shows filtered features from polar (HILIC) analysis (merged polarities, n = 2065). Edge widths increase with the cosine score. Pie charts show the relative mean peak height of iN+ (blue gradient) and iN- (orange gradient) treatments. The compound names refer to the top GNPS library hit. The black border signifies GNPS annotated features with cosine score (MQ score) >0.7, while the red border shows features >1000-fold increasing under N-deficiency (top iN-). Note no GNPS annotations for the top iN- features. Notice the low proximity of the top iN- to GNPS features, thus prohibiting their identification.
